We all know that kids love staying up past their bedtimes, especially on New Year’s Eve. Get your little one involved in your New Year’s spread preparation by making this healthy, sweet fruit salad together that ties in the STEM skills they learn on Blaze and the Monster Machines.
Help your child count up the number of fruits that go into the salad, and count down the number of fruits that go into their tummies! It’s the perfect way to prep them for the countdown to midnight–or for any Monster Dome race! For an added math challenge, try combining different kinds and quantities of fruit to practice basic addition.
Feel free to switch up the types and quantities of fruit according to your preferences. This recipe is as easy as 3, 2, 1!
(Difficulty Level: Easy)
What You’ll Need
(Serves 2)
10 grapes
9 blueberries
8 strawberry halves
7 clementine wedges
6 banana slices
5 chunks of pineapple
4 Tbsp of orange juice
3 cantaloupe wedges, chunked
2 kiwis, peeled and sliced
1 apple, cored and sliced
How to Make
Step One: Help your child to count each piece of fruit that goes into your bowl. For a New Year’s twist, make sure the fruits count down from 10.
Step Two: Mix all the fruit together.
Step Three: It’s time to serve your salad! Ask your child to count how many pieces of each fruit they have on their plate. Then, have them count down as they eat. This is an easy and nutritious way to practice counting with your little one.
